I like animals… alot , when I grow up i’m going to have all sorts of animals 6 or 7 maybe. So i’ll need lots of practise but my mom says “that by the time you remember to feed it it would have ran away or died “ I of course protested to the lies but my mom wouldn’t believe me, she kept on bringing up me and my sisters past pet fails such as the two really pretty blue and purple ones , the yellow one and the numerous goldfish (I was too little to remember names) I answered with that’s Sona’s fault I couldn’t even reach the top of the bowl, how could I clean it?” This went on for a while and in that that period of time my sister chimed in our arguments for a pet. One day we finally said “ if it’s bigger than a fish than we’ll pay more attention to it , because fish just need you to pour food in and clean tanks that’s and all we can get them to do is swim” my mom did not look convinced “ we will take care of it all the time and you won’t have to do anything but buy food for it” my mom sighed and said “i’ll think about” and promptly left as to save her ears from our protest to turn maybe into definetly.
After a quick day of playing for me at kindergarten and a long boring day of school for my sister we were waiting for the bus that usually takes us home, instead we heard the honking of our parents car we ran over and immediately quizzed them why they were picking us up, when they usually complain about it, little did I know that we were in for a big surprise. By the time we reached our destination it was night-time and I had fallen fast asleep my mother gently shook me awake, we wound our way through the crowded and brightly lit streets and we saw a small cozy shop shop lit up by a string of bright lights even before entering you could see what the shop contained, it was a pet shop! Inside were adorable puppies brightly coloured fish and best of all beautiful budgie bird lined up in numerous cages colours ranging from bright neon greens and intense purple to delicate white/ grey and dazzling skyblue the the shopkeeper greeted us and immediately started pointing out the best ones he took us from hamster to puppy but what we were really interested in was the birds. Me and my sister did a close examination ,watching for every detail ,we studied them for a long time when suddenly… something caught my eye, in a far corner sat a lone cage, my sister was already over there looking at a stormy blue on but what I turned my attention too was an amazing budgie with a bright neon coat for her body which led up to her neck with yellow edging in from the ruff leading to to a snow white head with delicately sprinkled black spots along the side, she had strong wings but a long and elegant body. That is when I knew I had to have that bird, I immediately ran over to my parents who were having a conversation with the shopkeeper and dragged them over to the cage. Just when i was about to point out the perfect bird my sister whirled around and declared she had found her perfect pet anger welled up inside me quickly replaced by sadness, tears started to bubble in my eyes but I blinked them out and opened my mouth to protest when suddenly they turned over to me and asked have “you found one?” I couldn’t seem to muster the words but simply nodded in relief and disbelief my parents weren’t exactly the kind of people who said “let’s do something since you both want something different let’s do both of them!” But it’s not best to point this out when you get something you want compared to nothing. We rode home bubbling with excitement talking about the million different ways to play with them all the possible names ( since we each had one we got pick our own names, so there were no arguments). When we got home we were immediately ordered to go to bed which sucked but since the next was a weekend we got to stay home all day and play with our birds. By the end of the day we settled for Lily for my bird and Lizzie for my sisters bird.
Everyday after school I checked o Lily but she didn’t really respond but Sona taught Lizzie a bunch of tricks by the time I got her to eat a bird seed from my hand my sister had already decide that she wanted to have a show for our parents in a week this was first announced during one particular crestfallen moment for me where i was on the verge of teaching Lily a new trick when Lizzie sqauked so loud it made me jump and give a short scream which scared Lily away which was not fair sometimes I think that Sona deliberately taught her to do that. After that i retired to dinner just to hear that. That night i went to bed with newfound determination and a plan.
That week carried on the same as the last until one day I discovered my sisters secret.Every time she got lizze to do a trick she’d hide a bird seed in her hand and Lizzie would do literally anything for it, it was worth a shot after all what have I got to lose?
I had exactly half an hour left before the show so I had to work fast, I started with a simple find and retrieve it worked, throw and catch it worked , even managed to turn her chirps into a nice little melody. I doubt Lizzie to do that. It was time to perform a few neighbor came too, we did every trick right and it was amazing and everyone was clapping.
